County Candidates Talk Water

By Sophia Boyd-F liegel JACKSON HOLE DAILY

Whether water quality in Hoback should be defined as a crisis or an emerging crisis was the topic of much debate at Wednesday’s Republican candidate forum for Teton County Commissioner.

Alex Muromcew and Tom Segerstrom both used their one-time red cards to speak for additional time on the subject.

Muromcew began by condemning “inaction” from current electeds that he connected to fecal bacteria in Flat Creek and algae blooms in the Snake River.

Segerstrom, noting his service on the Teton County Conservation District and advocacy for the issue, disagreed.

Water quality is an “emerging issue” for the majority of places in Jackson Hole, he said. Danger should be controlled, but that would take lots of time, money and coordination.

Muromcew rebutted that the state was “squandering” federal ARPA money it could use for that issue.
